Visit Yuma Hires New Visitor Information Center Assistant Manager

Yuma, Arizona - Visit Yuma has announced the selection of Annette Van Stratten as its new Assistant Manager at the Visitor Information Center (VIC).

“We are very fortunate to have her expertise, not only in leading a team of staff and seasonal volunteers, but also because she's going to do great things with our gift shop, the Yuman Interest shop, within the Visitor Information Center," says Linda Morgan, the Executive Director of Visit Yuma. Located at the Colorado River State Historic Park, the VIC is the official visitor center for Yuma, and was awarded a 2019 Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor.

“Annette really has come to us at an ideal time. We are working on some exciting new uniquely Yuman items that will be available this fall in the gift shop. I value Annette's experience and the fresh perspective she brings to the team," said Leslie Fain, Visit Yuma's Office Manager.

Van Stratten moved to Yuma in 2009. With her children all grown and moving on, her parents invited her to come out West. She felt Yuma might be a bit too hot for her liking. She said her mother was a great proponent of all that Yuma had to offer, trying to impress upon her daughter the importance of Yuma agriculture and how Yuma farms feed the nation. Van Stratten said, "There are so many things I'd like to experience locally--the Field to Feast Tour and a Date Night Dinner." Now, promoting Yuma, Van Stratten remarked about the irony of not wanting to come to Yuma a decade ago. She said, "I know my mom would be saying, 'See, I told you there was more to Yuma!'"

Van Stratten started Aug. 5, 2019, at Visit Yuma. Prior to this, she was the thrift store manager for the Humane Society of Yuma for eight years, and when she saw this position open, she applied "I love people and making them happy. To see someone get excited to explore Yuma, how much fun is that?" said Van Stratten. Contact her by calling (928) 703-0071 or email her at
