On August 18th, 1929, twenty aviatrixes (women pilots) entered the first official women-only air race in the United States from Santa Monica, CA to Cleveland, OH. The stop in Yuma, Arizona was requested by all of the participating aviatrixes.
Yuma International Airport cordially invites you to to join us to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Women's National Air Derby complete with Fly-In and a full day of events in their memory. Guests will get to meet and spend time with our special guest, "Sky Girls" author, aviatrix and almost astronaut, Gene Nora Jessen. Gene Nora will have copies of her book Sky Girls available for purchase and will autograph them! See schedule of events here.
