The holiday season is in full swing!  You can track down Santa at several locations this weekend to see if you are on his naughty or nice list!  The sounds of the season and some classic rock, too, will also be a highlight of the weekend. Don’t be a grinch, take a look at the top things to do this weekend in Yuma!

First Friday Yuma

Find the perfect holiday gifts for the ones you love in Historic Downtown Yuma, on First Friday!  Explore local businesses located on Main Street, Madison Avenue and Maiden Lane on Friday evening.  The shops stay open a little later and offer specials to encourage shoppers to #ShopLocal.  


 

 

 

Christmas Lighting in Historic Downtown Yuma

Join in on a magical tradition for Yuma families! Historic Main Street will light up with twinkle lights on wreaths, light poles, and the official lighting of the Main Street Christmas Tree in front of the Yuma Art Center. Come downtown on Saturday evening from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. to watch in awe as they flip the holiday switch and experience the moment the air fills with holiday spirit! Jam to Jazz

The Village Jazz Series presents free public concerts featuring nationally known and regional artists as well as student groups. The next event is being held in the Village Area of Yuma Palms Regional Center,  in front of Harkins Theaters. Attendees should bring their own seating. Food and drinks are available from nearby eateries.  This Thursday is a special pre-series holiday concert. Jason and Eloisa Arviso will help get you in the mood for the holiday season as they share this special evening with Yuma Jazz Company.  The music starts at 6 p.m. 

Peanut Patch Christmas Bash

The Peanut Patch is known as Yuma’s Original General Store.  It is the perfect place to celebrate the season with a holiday market, food vendors, pictures with Santa, a Kids Corner, and entertainment, as well as all the store’s holiday gift selections. Plan to stay awhile, bring a lawn chair, and enjoy the day with Senor Peanut and the whole Peanut Patch family.  The fun goes from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday.  

Raise the Roof

Join the Yuma Community Food Bank for their 2nd Annual Warehouse Gala. Food, fun and Checker'd Past will be playing the best of the 80's.  One hundred percent of the proceeds will go towards much needed building repairs for the food bank.  Tickets are available at Yuma the Community Food Bank or call 928-343-1243.  Individual tickets are $100, and group sales are also available.

Handbell Concert

Enjoy a concert of Christmas and pop music performed by the Cindy Klein Memorial Handbell Choir on Schulmerich Handbells, Melody Chimes, and Silver Melody Bells at the Historic Yuma Theatre. Arizona Classical Ballet is performing the Nutcracker this weekend.  It is a joyous Christmas Eve early in the 19th century. Clara’s family is hosting a party and the rest of the story is full of holiday magic.  See the Nutcracker at the Yuma’s Historic Theater Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available at Yumashowtickets.com 

Eat at the Sausage Fry

The 61st annual Walt Kammann Sausage Fry hosted by Yuma Rotarians is this Friday night.  General admission tickets are $10 each. The beloved community event takes place from 5 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Yuma Civic Center, located at 1440 W Desert Hills Drive.  Bring your appetite.  

Twas the Fright Before Christmas

Night Before Christmas

Experience an interactive Haunted holiday walkthrough display inspired by Disney’s “Nightmare Before Christmas.”  This is the opening weekend of “Twas’ the Night before Christmas,” put on by Yuma Nightmares. The experience is designed for children and adults.  Kids are given lanterns to walk through with a little light, while adults go through in the darkness of the night. Check it out this Friday and Saturday from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.  Proceeds from the event go towards Yuma’s Habitat for Humanity. Take a photo with Santa Claus at the YMCA this weekend.  The photo op starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and wraps up at noon.  4 x 6 photos are $5 during the pre-sale and $10 the day of the event.  Additional prints cost $5 each. For more information call 928-317-0522.
