Sept. 1 & 2 — Labor Day weekend aside, the first week in September is HUGE for the Yuma community, with hunters arriving from far and wide in search of the best dove hunting conditions found anywhere in the country. And, while early season stretches from Sept. 1-15, one event captures the intensity of the hunt: the Sprague's Sports Big Breast XXVIII.
Over $2,000 in sportsman prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place are up for grabs in this contest to see who can bring home the biggest bird. Here's the best part: no registration is required! Catch your entry and head over to Sprague's Sports in Yuma to see how your bird measures up against the competition. Visit Spragues.com for complete rules. Happy and safe hunting!
Sept. 3 — Yuma welcomes dove hunters young and old, and for the former the 3rd Annual Clint Curry Memorial Youth Dove Hunt offers a friendly environment for families to teach hunting responsibly and safety. Arizona Game & Fish Department will be on site, selling $5 junior licenses to kids 10 and older. Registration (required) begins at 5 a.m; all attendees will be provided with lunch after the hunt. To participate, head out to Clint Curry Farms Co. at the intersection of 18E and County 6th Street, and head west for .7 miles. For more information, visit the event's official Facebook page.
Sept. 3 — Starting at 12 p.m., Yuma will host the 1st Annual World Championship Dove Cook-Off at Yuma Civic Center. Attendance is FREE, with live cooking demonstrations beginning at noon. Then, watch on as teams are pitted against each other in a competition to see who prepares the best dove dish. For complete details, check out YumaDoveHunting.com.
Sept. 4 — Now in its tenth year, the annual Mike Mitchell Memorial Dove Hunter's Barbecue welcomes everyone to Cocopah Bend RV Resort (6800 Strand Ave.) for a fundraising event, with proceeds benefiting youth and wildlife conservation efforts. Enjoy delicious food and enter to win one of many great raffle prizes. For ticket information, visit the event's official Facebook Page.

The exhibit is open August 31 through October 15; but, the public is invited to attend the Opening Reception on Sept. 2, beginning at 6 p.m. While you're there, have a look at Rostros y Miradas de Yuma by artist Roberto Bejarano. Meet the artists at this event while enjoying the beautiful Yuma Art Center facility, located in Historic Downtown Yuma. More information at YumaAZ.gov.
Sept. 2 — Get a jump on fall with The Kress Ultra Lounge's End of Summer celebration. At The Kress, there are three great ways to let loose: in the Latin Room, the Ultra Lounge and the open top Rooftop Lounge. No matter which you choose, there will be great music played by LIVE DJs, awesome drinks, and a crowd of locals and out-of-towners socializing on into the morning. For VIP/bottle service, call 928-750-2551. The Kress is a 21 and older venue in Historic Downtown Yuma. More information at TheKress.com.
Sept. 3 — Dozens of Yuma area musicians and artists are setting up shop under the stars at Joe Henry Memorial Park for the LittleRose Art & Music Festival, from 7 to 10 p.m. This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the September weather at one of the city's long-standing parks. The event is free, but donations are welcomed and will be gifted to the Yuma Community Food Bank.
Sept. 3 & 4 — Yuma Territorial Promotions presents its annual firearms and antiques showcase at Yuma Civic Center. The Labor Day Gun and Dove Hunters Show will feature a wide assortment of guns for sale. From California? No problem! Buyers will be able to transfer firearm purchases via an on-site California Firearms dealer. Admission is $8 per day. For more information, check out YumaAZ.gov.
