David Carvell (incumbent) - Branch/Sales Manager, Ahern Rentals
A native of Jonesboro, AR, David relocated to Yuma in May of 2007. Upon moving to Yuma, David initially worked in the rental equipment business as a sales representative. He took a couple of years outside the rental industry working in the advertising sales and agency business. David enjoyed working with clients to help them understand how advertising and marketing will assist them in growing their business. David is accomplished in developing micro-marketing plans for businesses wishing to build their brand. Along with extensive sales experience, he has more than 17 years of experience working to develop and implement local and national marketing plans. He has completed several consulting projects over the past several years with various businesses to help analyze and maximize their marketing efforts and strategies. He returned to the rental industry in 2012, this time in management. He is currently the Branch and Sales Manager for the Yuma, AZ and El Centro, CA area. As Branch/Sales Manager he has built a strong team dedicated to providing the best service in the rental industry within the Yuma area. David obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in marketing and an MBA from Mississippi State University. David is an active member of Fort Yuma Rotary, the Caballeros de Yuma, and board member of Visit Yuma. He enjoys spending time being involved in the community, enjoying the local desert, golfing, and staying active.
Reetika Dhawan - Dean of Career and Technology, Arizona Western College
Born and raised in India, Reetika learned valuable lessons early in life including having a strong work ethic and working hard to achieve goals. After completing her education in Mathematics and Physics, with a Bachelor’s of Science in math, physics, and chemistry, a Bachelor’s of Education, a Master’s of Science in both Physics and Applied Math she began her teaching career. She has been teaching at the university level for 18 years and became Division Chair for Math and Engineering at AWC in 2016. She now serves as Dean of Career and Technology where she can apply her experience in leadership, project management, grant development, community outreach, curriculum development, career and tech advising, and budget management. Reetika is the recipient of many teaching awards over the years including most recently the AWC Teacher of the Year award, as well as Endowed Faculty Award, NISOD teaching award, AWC Excellency Medal, AWC Star Faculty Award, and Instructor of the Year. Reetika cares about Yuma and wishes to bring her knowledge, energy, and expertise to the Visit Yuma board.
Louie Hirth - Owner and Operator, Liberty Motorsports
As a member of the Yuma community for the past 50 plus years, Louie Hirth purchased his first dealership in 1971. As the owner and operator of Liberty Motorsports, he has been in the business of providing Honda, Yamaha, Polaris and Can Am products to the Yuma area for 38 years. He is a valued member of the Yuma business community having served on many boards and commissions including Yuma County Chamber of Commerce, Yuma Regional Medical Center, Foundation of YRMC and has been a member of Caballeros de Yuma for 25 years and trustee for the Yuma Elks Lodge. He has been involved in a number of educational programs related to board service and fiduciary responsibility. He would be honored to serve on the board.
Deidre Meerchaum (incumbent) - Facilities Manager, Gowan Company
Deidre Meerchaum was born and raised in Yuma. She graduated from Yuma High School and received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona. She began her career in 2009 at Gowan Company in the Marketing Department, was promoted to Office Manager and currently is the Facilities Manager. Deidre has served on the Visit Yuma board since July 2016.
Nate Schug - President, Westmoor Electric
After visiting his parents in Tucson, Nate fell in love with Arizona. In 1979 he moved to Yuma from Illinois and has never regretted that decision. Nate is the President of Westmoor Electric where he’s served since 1994. Nate enjoys the opportunity to provide electrical services, big or small, to the Yuma community.
Nate also believes in giving back to the community that he loves. He’s been a member of the Caballeros de Yuma for 15 years. He served as El Presidente in 2010-2011. He’s served on many boards, foundations and committees, including Hospice of Yuma, Children and Family Services and El Toro Bowl Committee through AWC.
In his spare time, Nate golfs and spends time with his family. He is ready to serve on the Visit Yuma Board because he believes in the mission and appreciates the influx of tax revenue generated by travel spending.
