Magical History Tours

Roxaboxen

In 2000, the city of Yuma dedicated as a natural “desert park” the hillside where author Alice McLerran’s mother and her sisters and friends created the world of imagination described in the children’s book, “Roxaboxen.”  The city holds a Roxaboxen festival annually, call Yuma Art Center (373-5202) for info.

 

Running Boy Tours

Enjoy the beauty of the desert and mountains while learning more about our fascinating history.  Steve Thornburg will tailor a guided tour by Jeep and ATV for groups of two or more (minimum age 10).  Handicapped people need to be able to transfer from a wheelchair or walker into a high-clearance Jeep and/or an all-terrain ATV.  Cost (includes water, snacks and optional helmet) is $35 per hour per person, most tours will run two to three hours. 581-8202

This new water park is now taking shape, with a projected opening date of June 1, 2011.  Plans for the water park include a huge lazy river ride, 17 tubes and slides ranging from mild to wild, a giant kiddie pool and water play area, plus locker rooms, concessions, private party areas and parking.

Wild World Zoo & Camel Farm

A working breeding farm that specializes in exotic animals, this family-run business features a herd of dromedary camels and more than 200 animals of 25+ other species.  Open Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays) except during the hottest months. This family entertainment center reopened under new ownership Thanksgiving weekend of 2011, and has been cranking out smiles ever since.  Check out two awesome miniature golf courses, bumper boats, go-karts, an arcade and a family-oriented sports bar and grill that will keep strictly PG hours with a fun menu.  Coming soon just down the hill, a full-service water park.
