Village Jazz Series Spring Preview
Published on Jan 9, 2017

Grab the lawn chairs and blankets — the Village Jazz Series gets back underway at Yuma Palms! Steven Hennig of Yuma Jazz previews the bill for the free, outdoor concert series ...

If a great, FREE jazz concert on a beautiful Yuma, Arizona evening, in delightful surroundings with unique food and drink vendors close by sounds good to you, how about and entire series of them to attend at your convenience?

The Village Jazz Series begins its 11th season on January 12th and runs every Thursday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., through April 27 in the Village Area of Yuma Palms Regional Center.  With attendees providing their own seating, the setting could not be better — the bright lights of the Village Area shops, plus palm trees, plush grass, water features, and the starry Yuma night sky.

The music itself, of course, will be terrific! Along with appearances by outstanding local musicians and the highly regarded ‘Host Band’ Yuma Jazz Company Quintet, the series will feature performances by some nationally known jazz artists, including flutist Holly Hofmann (San Diego) who will be appearing with guitarist Frank Potenza (LA), trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos, and his Hammond B-3 Trio (San Diego), vocalist Janet Hammer (San Diego), the Danny Green Trio (San Diego), the Ron Kobayashi Trio (LA), and guitarist/vocalist Pete Pancrazi (Phoenix).

I, like so many others, simply love the opportunity to hear this spontaneous form of music performed in this appealing setting. Many times people have mentioned to me that these events are something you would only expect to find in a much bigger city.  Ha — bigger cities should be so lucky!  The music is timeless and the charm is uniquely Yuman!

By the way, if you have out of town guests coming to visit, our accommodations sponsor, Best Western Innsuites Yuma, 928-783-8341, is offering a discount — just ask for the "Village Jazz Series Rate” anytime throughout the Series (whether your guests are friends or family, it is a win–win, just sayin’).
